Canada's biofuels industry warned government officials that ongoing delays to amendments of the Clean Fuel Regulations are pushing domestic investment south of the border. The warning came during a Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute webinar as industry representatives detailed how regulatory uncertainty is deterring new production capacity.

The Clean Fuel Regulations require fuel suppliers to reduce carbon intensity by blending biofuels like corn ethanol and canola biodiesel. For Prairie farmers, this translates directly into domestic demand for their crops as feedstock. Delays mean less certainty about future market demand.

Canadian producers now face a choice: wait for regulatory clarity or relocate to the United States where similar programs offer more predictable investment conditions. Several companies have already shifted planned expansions to American facilities.

Watch for the federal government's response timeline on CFR amendments, expected within 60 days.
